BLASTOCYST CULTURE
Culture of the embryos for up to six days at which time the embryo is known as a blastocyst, may be an option for some patients. This is discussed with patients following ongoing consultation with the embryology team.
FREEZING OF SUPERNUMERARY EMBRYOS
Approximately 25% of couples having IVF will have extra embryos that can be stored for use in a future cycle. All embryos are frozen at the blastocyst stage. Occasionally where a transfer does not proceed, embryos may be frozen at the 2PN stage (singe cell).
FREEZING AND STORAGE OF SPERM
Sperm freezing is available to all male patients and men who are about to undergo radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Frozen thawed sperm can then be used later in appropriate assisted conception treatment, according to the quality of the sample.
FROZEN EMBRYO REPLACEMENT
The use of frozen thawed embryos optimises the chances of conception from a single IVF cycle. They are generally transferred in a hormone controlled treatment cycle. The likelihood of a frozen thawed embryo implanting is similar to that of a fresh embryo.
SEMEN ANALYSIS
Clane Fertility Clinic routinely offers semen analysis for new patients; GP and Gynaecologist referrals.
