Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI)

If the number of normal, live sperm is very low, or the sperm has been surgically retrieved, or where antisperm antibody binding is observed, it may be necessary to inject a single sperm directly into each suitable egg post egg retrieval.

In some cases where egg quality is sub-optimal, ICSI may also be advised.icsi

In addition, where a couple have previously been through the IVF regime and fertilisation rates have been low, ICSI may be advised by the consultant or embryologist.
