About Our Fertility Clinic

Clane General Hospital was founded in 1985.  Infertility and its associated fertility treatments have been a part of the services provided by this hospital since its inception.

Originally, the programme in relation to fertility issues was started as a joint venture between Clane Hospital and Bourn Hall Clinic in Cambridge so that patients who have had difficulty conceiving a pregnancy can benefit from the professional expertise and experience of one of the worlds most renowned clinics in this field. IVF/ICSI are some of the most popular treatments provided at the fertility clinic.

Throughout our website we have information on the fertility treatments available and some video footage which we hope will make the procedures easier for you to understand.  However, our staff are also on hand to answer your queries by phone or email.

In addition, if you are a foreign national with limited or no English, we have interpreters available to meet with you here in the Clinic and translate the information from our consultant and nurses.

 

What is Infertility?

Infertility is the inability to conceive after one year of unprotected intercourse or the inability to carry a pregnancy to term. Generally, worldwide it is estimated that one in seven couples have problems conceiving.

Infertility problems can be more prevalent when:

  • Women are over 35
  • Women have a history of painful periods and/or irregular cycles
  • Women have pelvic inflammatory disease and miscarriages
  • Couples know that the male partner has a low sperm count

The earlier you seek help, the greater your chances for success. If you and your partner have been trying to conceive without success or have been diagnosed with infertility, we recommend seeing a specialist as soon as possible.
